- 1 cup gluten free whole grain old fashioned rolled oats
- 2 tablespoons melted coconut oil
- 2 tablespoon maple syrup
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 tablespoon flax meal
- ¼ teaspoon cinnamon
- ¼ teaspoon sea salt
- good pinch of cardamom
- good pinch of nutmeg
- First, gather your mise en place. (mi ˑ zɑ̃ ˑ plas).
- Next, place your oats in the food processor. Blend until they fine and flour-like, about 20 seconds.
- Pour the rest of your ingredients onto the food processor and blend until well incorporated. Scrape the sides and blend again.* Taste and adjust any seasoning if need. The butter may begin to form a ball in your food processor, this is totally fine.
- Scrape the butter into a bowl. Serve with bananas, apples, dates, or scoop into your favorite smoothie or acai bowl for added heartiness and protein. Store in an airtight container in the pantry.
*I like to make my oat butter a bit chunky and not too oily. If you want yours more spreadable like an almond butter, you will likely need to add more oil than this recipe calls for.
